Raleigh transit hub taking shape
Raleigh residents got their first look at the planned design for a new downtown transportation station Wednesday at a public meeting at Meymandi Concert Hall.

The $60 million project would move Amtrak's Raleigh service to a vacant, 26,000-square-foot building in the city's warehouse district at 510 W. Martin St. It would also be built to accommodate existing and future public transportation such as buses and commuter or light rail, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has said.
The plans, presented by architects from Clearscapes, show a massive, multi-story passenger waiting area with vast views out onto the city. About one-third of the space would be used for offices, ticket counters and administration. Two blocks inside the terminal would be available for lease to restaurants or retail shops.
The project is expected to be complete sometime in 2017.
The next public hearing is scheduled for May 1.
