Should I congratulate you on your vast knowledge of US federal law, NC GS, and local ordinances at such an early age? This is not taught in schools.

The vast majority of kids only know at a very basic level what is right and wrong. Drugs are wrong, murder is wrong, theft is wrong, etc. Sex, though, is terribly confusing. Parents often say "do not do that", but kids do it all the time and for reasons you understand. I'll venture to bet that nobody ever told this kid that sex with a 12-yo child is illegal and you could go to jail. Parents tend to not have these frank discussions, especially on this topic. Even if the kid of 6-yo, I'll bet the seriousness of such acts or punishment was never discussed.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse, of course, in spite of the fact that nobody knows all the laws and they are not taught in school. Lovely system we have.

If you have to ask that, I feel sorry for any children that are near you. Creep.

Ah, PC correctness here (no ethnicity of the perp) yet another story lists the religious persuasion of the victims. Neither is relevant yet the stories on WRAL are inconsistent in the color of their articles.
Lets here more about the college athelete using the 'n' word, waiting to hear more than an appology for that mistake.

My husband is naturalized American citizen and is Latino. This article indicates this child is less than 13 years old, so 12 or under the high bond amount makes me think it was a small child. From my extensive experience in Mexico, this is not normal at all. A child is a child. How do we even know this young man is from Mexico or even a Latino? You'll find he was also charged in November with a similar crime. Going by that, he sounds like a pedophile who should be in jail for the rest of his life.

Todd Jenkins - Take your racism somewhere else. Just because someone has a dark complexion and a different last name doesn't mean he's an illegal alien. Your comments do a great disservice to people like my husband. He's brown, speaks with an accent and wears work boots ( which probably makes your racism go ding ding ding- an ILLEGAL ) But he's a naturalized American citizen. I'm sorry if this man fits your profiling criteria of an illegal immigrant, but you're wrong. This man's bond is 3 million dollars because he's a disgusting pedophile. I will pray for you.

A hanging would be too kind I think. He deserves a bit more punishment because the victim will live with it for the rest of his or her life. He should endure the shame and humiliation and pain that the victim has or will have occurred. I detest molestation and child abuse the most and feel that it is just as bad as murder. Sick sick sick sick evil persons are those who do harm to children.

A seventeen year old doesn't know the legal consequences of his actions? Ridiculous. I remember being seven years old and thinking that, if I was going to kill someone, I should do it before I turned 9, because a 7 or 8 year old couldn't be held criminally responsible. I was a big fan of mystery stories, so maybe my thinking was a little more sophisticated for my age, but at 17 someone should at least be able to the put the pieces together enough to realize that, if you do bad things, you can go to prison.

"Man" in this crime, but you see "teens" in stories about same aged groups essentially rioting, looting and attacking in public. Weird.
