— Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Subway restaurant in Raleigh Wednesday.

The owner of the Subway, at 1705 Lake Wheeler Road, said an armed man came in shortly after 8:30 p.m. and demanded money from the safe. At least two employees were there at the time and, because they don't have access to the safe, they gave the robber money from the cash register.

The robber fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, the restaurant owner said.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Well, what do you expect? Where there's a large concentration of minorities, there is the spectre of crime. God forbid they earn an honest living. Steal from "The Man". That seems to be their montre.......

the neighborhood is NOT a "shady area"!

SO let me get this correct, you would be willing to after dark walk up lake wheeler road from south saunders street to this store no problem???

    hedgy one,
Im not going to say that is a "bad" area, but it sure isnt a good one. I work on Maywood Ave. That is the same store the pregnant woman was murdered behind about 4 years ago. There is a half way house right up the road. Homeless people are always walking the railroad tracks right behind there. Our office has been broken into several time. I have lived in Raleigh my whole life. That is not a good area.

I don't know where you people get the idea that there are "projects" around the Subway.... It is in walking distance to the Caraleigh Mills condos - quite expensive. And, it's on the edge of the Caraleigh community - working class folks and former "mill housing" places. It's across from the Farmer's Market & Centennial Campus.... not a bad area. I go there all the time. I think that it's behind a gas station/mini mart sould have something to do with some of the people attracted to that area & who might be prone to crime! But, the neighborhood is NOT a "shady area"!

Our definitons of shady are quite differnt....south and saunders st are about .5 miles away...shady....Caleigh has a fence around it b/c its close to shady areas...and if you cross 40 to carolina pines rd....shady...

I don't know about Subway, Inc, but NC has a thing called a concealed carry permit. It could be useful in that sort of situation.
