The city of Raleigh is slated to officially open its newest park - Forest Ridge - during a special dedication ceremony this weekend.

The park, at the end of Old NC 98, sits on 587 acres of parkland next to Falls Lake and near Wake Forest. In addition to a nice sized playground, there also will be three miles of single track mountain bike trails, 1.25 miles of multi-use trails, hiking trails, large open spaces and picnic shelters.

The playground, which was waiting for that squishy rubber surfacing to be installed when I visited late last week, will have a variety of pieces to climb and spin. There's also a large dinosaur bouncy rider for young kids and, for older kids, a decent zip line.

Check out the image gallery to get a closer look. The dedication, which is open to the public, is at 10 a.m., Saturday. Forest Ridge is at 2100 Old NC 98. A welcome center will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., daily.

Looking forward to checking this park out more when it's open.
