— Raleigh's CAT buses could get a new name and look by the end of the year.

City Council on Tuesday agreed to move forward with renaming Capital Area Transit as Go Raleigh.

It's part of a regional rebranding effort to reduce confusion among bus riders. While buses around the Triangle belong to separate operating systems, they share many of the same resources.

Durham and the Triangle Transit Authority will rename their buses Go Transit and Go Durham.

Cary and Chapel Hill still have to vote on renaming their systems.

I think it's foolish that it seems all the metro transits in NC have some sort of acronym that spells a word.

    CAT in Raleigh
    DATA in Durham
    FAST in Fayetteville
    COLTS in Lee County
    HARTS in Harnett County

The Triangle had tens of thousands of domestic and foreign visitors to just the Universities each year, it is confusing to have separate systems, when one gets picked up at the airport on the triangle bus and then must buy a ticket on separate systems, it will be easier to have a regional pass for all and just say you will use the go raleigh or go durham bus. The paint schemes will be similar to so of course this makes sense.

What the French? So everyone changing their name will make things easier? Very strange logic.

I still call the power company CP&L.

Why? You know why, come on! It will fix it and give you a new way of life, less cars better environment all around. Just like food stamp program is renamed SNAP. What they should do is run smaller vans/bases to larger bases 3-1 as feeder routes. Our just let the post office take over....can't get much worse

CAT has been the name of those buses my whole life. I am 37 years old. Why change it now. I pure rem. when buses ran on an abbreviated sked on Sat (like stopped running PERIOD at 5 p.m. on Sat) and NOT AT ALL on Sunday.
