Raleigh running behind on recycling pickup

Posted August 14, 2008

Some recycling customers in Raleigh will notice their bins are still full Thursday morning.

Pickup was not completed Wednesday on several routes across the city, Linda A. Leighton, city waste reduction specialist said. Crews will finish Wednesday routes Thursday morning before completing the usual Thursday routes, she said.

Residents with Wednesday pickup are asked to leave recycling at the curb. There is no need to call to report a missed pickup.

To check your route and pickup day, log on to the Find My Service Day form on the city's Web site.

We were told by one of the drivers, that there were 29 recycle trucks and 15 were in the shop. Go figure!!

If Russell Allen spent less time getting into everyone elses business and more time doing the job he was hired to do : (garbage collection) the city of Raleigh would be better off.

What's NEW! I call every week to report my recycling isn't picked up. Hey, they should be fined $50 per day for each late day as we are finded $50 for each day we don't put our trash cans back.

How is this suddenly news? Almost every single week they forget (or "run out of time") to pick up on Wednesday and come on Thursday!

I'm kind of glad they're late as I didn't get mine to the curb before 7 am.

They never pickup on time - what exactly are they doing when they should be picking up?

Would someone who claims to be a journaiist actually like to find out why? It may be the rain slowed them down. It may be another instance of massive corruption and waste. But you have to ask to find out and if find out, you are supposed to tell us.
