Raleigh Psychiatric Hospital to Expand

Posted February 26, 2008

— Holly Hill Hospital broke ground Tuesday on an expansion of its private psychiatric facility.

Forty-four beds will be added to the hospital, on 3019 Falstaff Road in Raleigh. The expansion is being undertaken as part of an agreement with Wake County so that more local residents can receive short-term psychiatric care.

Unless these 40 beds take medicaid/medicare or indigent care this will not help the crisis or make up for beds being lost due to the closure of Dix.

They are so expensive, I know bipolar people who need help but can not afford to go there. Very sad health care system we have.

Unlike Dorothea Dix Hospital, there's money to be made by Holly Hill. But, Holly Hill will not admit the "typical" Dix patient. Holly Hill won't deal with violent, out of control patients. They love the quiet types with great psych insurance. Holly Hill isn't doing Wake County any favors. This expansion will not help those citizens that need inpatient hospitalization the most. Way to go Holly Hill, you've found a wat to make more money off the mental health crisis without geting your hands dirty or making any difference to the problem.
