Raleigh proposes list of road construction projects

Posted September 15, 2008

— The Raleigh City Council will hear Tuesday recommendations from the city manager totaling more than $500 million in major road construction projects for the state Department of Transportation.

Among the top 20 priorities for the city are widening Glenwood Avenue to six lanes from Duraleigh Road and Millbrook Road to T.W. Alexander Drive just beyond Brier Creek.

Another priority is a pedestrian bridge over Glenwood Avenue from Crabtree Valley Mall to the Marriott Hotel.

Hillsborough Street roundabouts are also on the list.

The City Council will decide which projects will ultimately go to the DOT for consideration.

Another project in that top 20, if I heard right this morning, is the Eastern Wake Expressway which is an extension of 540 from the 64/264 bypass heading east and south to connect in to 70 and 40 on the East side of Raleigh. Even with living in Wendell and how nice that would be to have sooner, I feel that could be dropped down on the priority list as not bad at the moment for me and people from North Raleigh to access those roads to head to the beaches with the current setup.

nice to see we want to make a bridge for a private business. The Marriott has a shuttle that heads over to Crabtree. Let them take care of their own customers.

    Get off the Roundabouts.
Those traffic obstructions are just wanted by NCSU to expand their footprint across Hillsborough Street.
What they need to do is repave some roads. Driving through Raleigh is like driving on a washboard.

How about Falls of Neuse north of the hospital? Drove by there sometimes during traffic hours and it's horrible.
