Raleigh police spend evening on Garner Road

Posted March 15, 2012

— Raleigh police waited outside Wayside Apartments on Garner Road near Chavis Park Thursday for almost nine hours as a resident there refused to talk to them.

Capt. Andy Murr said police arrived about 2 p.m. to serve an involuntary mental commitment order, but the man in question refused to come outside.

“The subject displayed a knife, retreated into his apartment and barricaded the door," Murr said.

Just after 10 p.m., police fired gas canisters through a window, and the man walked to the door. He was unarmed and was taken for a mental evaluation.

Sad. It sounds like this guy should be institutionalized. At least until he gets help. But the far left says it violates his rights and teh far right says it costs to much. So the rest of us have to pay RPD to be out here for 9 hours and put themselves in harms way. Sad.

An excellent job. Time, talk, and tactics win the day again.
