— Raleigh police released surveillance images Sunday of two men they say tried to rob a convenience store at gunpoint on Oct. 15.

The robbery was thwarted by a store clerk, who refused to give the men any money, police said. As the suspects fled on foot, one of them pointed a gun at a store customer.

Witnesses only provided a description of one of the suspects. They told investigators that the armed man is black, in his 20s, about 6 feet 1 inch tall, with a slim build and facial hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt with writing on the front and jeans.

In the surveillance images, the second suspect appears to be dressed in dark-colored clothing with a hood covering his head.

"Taking bets that if and when they catch them, they're already on probation and should already be in jail...."

We can't afford to lock up everyone for a long time and we're too 'humane' to try other forms of punishment. Public caning, a large probation neck collar, etc. would be quick and might work better than private probation. Certainly after repeated violations, the likelihood of a repeat offense should trump the perps feelings.

Oh, so protesting against corporate greed, less job opportunities after graduating from college and regulations that allow corporations to pay no taxes makes one a criminal, eh?
