Raleigh police seek man in BB&T robbery

Posted March 2, 2012

— Raleigh police are looking for a black man in his 50s with a salt-and-pepper mustache, the suspect in a bank robbery Friday morning in far northeast Raleigh.

A 6-foot-tall man wearing light blue jeans, a brown hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, a dark blue or black coat, black shoes and gloves robbed the BB&T bank at 3001 Leland Drive just before 9:30 a.m., according to Jim Sughrue, a spokesman for the Raleigh Police Department.

Sughrue said no one was injured, but he did not disclose how much money was stolen.

Anyone who believes they may know the suspect or who has other information that might assist detectives is asked to call Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-4357. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that help solve cases.

These bank photos are great. No wonder most are caught using this method. Looking at his face though, I don't recognize him.

How about the banks start hiring armed guards to work in them? I mean they brag about how much money they are making from year to year on Overdraft charges they should spend some of it.
We could always just keep the money in our pockets, safer that way, especially with all the banks wanting to charge extra nowadays.

Putting a sign on the door will not stop someone from coming in with hats, sunglasses, etc...if they are determined to rob it, they have already made up their mind long before seeing a sign.

I agree with pirate09 - I don't bank with Coastal Federal but have been inside and while I didn't like the fact that there's no person-to-person interaction, the likelihood of the bank being robbed is practically non-existent, which I liked!

    I like turbo08's idea.

  • pirate09 Mar 2, 2012

I think they all need to go like Coastal Federal and just have the tellers that come on in each little vestebule on a monitor. That way you can never rob them!

  • turbo08 Mar 2, 2012

They should have pepper spray nozzles in the ceiling that spray onto whoever is in front of the counter. So if someone slides a note to the teller she hits a button and ducks! I guess they will never do that cause someone else may get sprayed. A better idea is a tranquilizer gun hidden in the counter!

or if the floor turns into lava and attack dogs come through the back room and hypodermic needles filled with rattle snake venom start falling from the ceiling.

Crime in Raleigh....no way. I would think he would have raised suspicion the minute he hit the door dressed like that. Yrs ago I was told I couldn't enter a gas station to pay for gas since I still had my motorcycle helmet on. You think a bank would have similar rules of some sort since they are more prone to robbery
