RALEIGH, N.C. — The actions of a Raleigh police officer are being questioned after he shot a pit bull while arresting a suspect.

The incident happened Thursday in a yard on Walser Place.

The officer said when the suspect ran into the yard, a chained pit bull attacked.

When the dog lunged for the suspect, the officer shot the dog in the head.

The Internal Affairs Division is looking into the shooting, as it does whenever an officer's firearm is discharged.

The owner said his dog is in quarantine.
