— A Knightdale man is accused of stealing purses from two vehicles, crashing into other vehicles and attempting to run over a police officer while trying to get away in north Raleigh Sunday.

Arrest warrants state that Omar Rodriguez, 30, whose address is listed as "anywhere, Knightdale," broke into two vehicles and took two purses worth $300.

He rammed a pickup truck with four people inside, struck a barricade in the parking lot of a shopping center at 3232 Capital Blvd. and hit another vehicle in a parking lot at 4000 Atlantic Ave., according to warrants. When police stopped him on New Hope Church Road, the warrants stated, he tried to run over an officer.

Police said he had a blood alcohol content level of 0.14 and was driving more than 15 mph over the speed limit on New Hope Church Road.

Rodriguez was charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts each of hit-and-run and breaking-and-entering a motor vehicle, and one count each of assault with a deadly weapon of an emergency responder, misdemeanor larceny, felony fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving and resisting a public officer.

He was placed in the Wake County jail under a $71,000 secured bond.

@night- What if he was born and raised in nc? Don't get me wrong I'm glad they caught the guy. He was caught breaking the law. Although, I get on here and it is constantly deport them etc. It will be hard to deport him to North Carolina if he is from here. It is like people are sheep and can't wait for the facts of the story because you care to jump on the deportation band wagon not even knowing where he is from.

Try him, convict him, imprison him, deport him.

Omar needs about 10 years in jail followed by deportation.

jjsmith1973, Your right, but all of them have documents saying they are legal,so assuming he is legal then his paperwork needs to be verified, suspicious of all by nature, and so far have been right more than I have been wrong, spent years working with and around them, all had SS# trouble was they belonged to someone else.

"What is missing in this coverage is the deportation date, but that won't happen,we will feed and cloth him, make sleeping arrangements for him, after all he did come here for a better life,no matter how much trouble he makes for others." - muggs

Probably the best post I've seen on the list, well said and I echo the comment.

One I think that the drunken rampage title is a little much. How about he would have done it anyway. Plus that is the minor part of all the crimes he committed. Also, you leave your valuables in plain sight is asking for trouble even though you have the right to do something doesn't always mean it trumps common sense and reality. A person takes precautions to prevent themselves from being a victim of crime. If you don't your rolling the dice. Reality is just because someone shouldn't do it because you have a right doesn't mean they don't. I should be able to walk around south Chicago in the middle of the night, with money hanging out of my pockets and not get robbed or killed because it is my right to do so. I don't though. I'm glad they caught the guy.
