print friendly

A Wendell man died early Saturday when his car slammed into a tree at more than 100 mph in a case of suspected drunken driving, Raleigh police said.

Alford Wendell Brown, 47, was going 109 mph west on Six Forks Road, near Wake Forest Road, around 12:35 a.m. when he lost control of his 2002 Volvo. It ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree, ejecting Brown.

The results of alcohol tests on Brown are pending. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

this is like totally out of left field. what was happening in this persons life 30min prior? bombayrunner

What was happening? Really? What was happening was he was being really stupid and drinking to excess. Then he got more stupid and got behind the wheel of an automobile. I'm sorry for his friends and family but this guy died of stupidity. I'm glad no one else came to harm due to his actions.

Sounds like natural selection to me. Glad he didn't hurt anyone else.

"At that time in the morning, shouldn't the cops be all eyes for drunks, especially going over 100mph." chattycat

If cops had seen him and tried to stop him there would be 100+ comments asking why the cops made him crash.

A Volvo can go 100mph???

That is what I was thinking! I suppose since my Suburban can do it a volvo should be able to but darn...neither were made for that at all.
