RALEIGH, N.C. — A resident of Raleigh's Wolf Creek apartments shot and killed an intruder early Saturday.

Police were called to the complex near the State Fairgrounds early Saturday morning just before 2 a.m. They found Trevor Anders Herne, 35, dead of a gunshot wound.

Investigators said that the resident, Vincent Reed Bellamy, 23, was armed inside Apartment 106 at 6118 Wolf Ridge Court when he was confronted by an armed intruder. The resident prevailed.

The resident told a dispatcher in his call to 911 that a man broke into his apartment and held a handgun to his face. The tenant was then able to get his own gun and shoot the intruder.

Raleigh police said no charges had been filed in the case. The investigation is ongoing.
