RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police were investigating an armed robbery at the Lagos Supermarket market at 5440 Atlantic Springs Road Thursday.

Just before 11 a.m., officers stopped a car on Interstate 440, near the Yonkers Road exit, believed to be connected to the robbery. The occupants of the car jumped out and ran, but were taken into custody a short time later.

Police said the robber got inside the market by hitting the glass door with the butt of a gun.

Immigrant merchants in the shopping center say they feel more vulnerable to criminals, especially after the morning robbery.

"When I was living in New York City it happened to me," said Joseph Montes, who owns a shop nearby.

Juan Josgenys, who works at a barbershop in the shopping center, said everything in his shop is handled in cash.

"When a robber is going to come to a place, first he is going to study the place," Josgenys said.

As a result, businesses in the area are taking extra precautions. Lagos Supermarket has security cameras, as does Montes' shop.

Others in the area said they go the extra step of having locked doors where customers must be buzzed in.

"When you come in, I have a button and I open it," Montes said. "It is magnetic and it helps me a lot."

No one was injured in Thursday's armed robbery.

Deante Markeith Cooper, 27, and Travion Lamont Harris, 20, were charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon inflicting serious bodily injury, assault by pointing a firearm and second-second degree kidnapping in connection with the armed robbery.

The investigation is ongoing.
