RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police were investigating a homicide at the Pines of Ashton apartment complex on Saturday.

Police were called shortly after 1 p.m., and found the body of a woman inside one of the apartments on Calumet Drive.

Neighbors watched as the apartment community became a crime scene. Jennifer Hayes lives nearby and said there were about 20 police officers at the scene Saturday afternoon.

"It's scary to stay out here and it's that close to home because I (have) a little one," said Pines of Ashton resident Shakena Harrington.

When police arrived, a man was found injured inside the apartment and was taken to WakeMed Hospital to be treated for injuries.

He was later taken into custody and is considered a suspect, police said, but no charges have been filed.

Authorities are calling the crime a "domestic situation" and said it was not a random act.

No other information was released.
