Charges not expected in Raleigh child drowning

Posted March 26

— Investigators believe the March 20 drowning of a 4-year-old inside a Raleigh apartment was an accident and do not expect to file criminal charges.

Authorities responded to a drowning call at the Raleigh Gardens Apartments on Saint Giles Street where Skye McLeod was found unresponsive.

The child was bathing with a sibling when her mother’s boyfriend, who was watching the two children, stepped out of the bathroom, according to a search warrant. The boyfriend returned to the bathroom after hearing splashing and found Skye lying on her back with her head to the side and her nose and mouth submerged, the warrant said.

The boyfriend removed the child from the tub and placed her on the hallway floor before dialing 911. He performed lifesaving measures until authorities arrived, the warrant said.

Skye was pronounced dead en route to the hospital.

You know, not every boyfriend is a terrible caregiver, and not every mother is a wonderful caregiver.

Other news outlets report that the girl was 3, not 4, and the sibling was younger. Even at 4, if she had slipped and went under the water, she may have panicked and not been able to pick herself up. It's happened before to someone that I know, who happens to be a wonderful mother, who turned her back for a second to grab a towel. Accidents do happen, and we can all sit here and say that it would never happen to any of us, but the truth is, we're not perfect.

I know several men who are dating moms with kids that are a thousand times a better a father than the actual father.

Sometimes a horrible accident is just a horrible accident.

Unless there were other circumstances surrounding this incident, no 4 year year old I know (have known) would easily drown in a bathtub.

Doesn't say how old the sibling was, but an older one should have called for help.

Agree, the story either isn't all revealed, or there is something fishy and not adding up here.

Poor little baby - so feel for this family.

Marriage does not always make an appropriate care giver either or the fact that a woman gave birth to the child. Some people are just not parent material.

A 4 year old drowning in a tube sounds kind of fishy to me.
