— Investigators are looking into the apparent drowning of a four-year-old girl at the Raleigh Gardens Apartments on Saint Giles Street Thursday afternoon.

Skye McLeod was taken to Rex Hospital where she was pronounced deceased, police said.

Investigators said Friday that Skye and a younger sibling were briefly left alone in a bathtub, and the girl was unconscious when the caregiver returned.

“She was classy prissy. She always wanted her nails done,” said Lakendra Price, who knew the girl. “Always a bright smile. She always asked for my lip gloss whenever she'd see me.”

Price was unsure of the details surrounding the child’s death but said the mother’s boyfriend was babysitting at the time. Neighbors said the girl’s younger sister was also home at the time.

Police on Friday released the 911 call made by an unidentified male caller in the home who frantically asked for help because the girl was not breathing.

“It's hard to believe and I’m going to miss her and I want to let her know that I love her,” Price said.

Authorities have not released any additional details.

It takes longer than a few seconds to drown, even for a helpless infant, and a four year old is generally strong enough to get their head above water long enough to draw breath, unless they're also injured.

What in the world!?! Generally, a four year old is strong enough to get their head above water unless they're injured. I pray she didn't suffer long. Poor baby!!!
Prayers for those who loved her.

It is amazing how people jump to conclusions, others argue about the conclusions and the whole thing is lost in the translation. Sheeeeeze..

This happened in a bathtub. Unfortunately, all it takes it turning your back for just a couple seconds for a young child to drown in a bathtub.

The situation is horrible for everyone involved.

And everyone knocking the boyfriend babysitter....would you think differently if the boyfriend was a doctor? Lawyer? Politician? What if someone left their child with a neighbor and this happened? Try not to be so judgmental. Not every case is like that poor 4 year old from Johnston County.
