"Mom should certainly warm her rear a little for this and she should be made to do some kind of community service."

I can't help but wonder if she had a valid reason to run away. We don't know her story. I really don't see how spanking her will make anything better since she was desperate enough (for whatever reason) to run from home for several weeks.

I personally think that 15 is too old to spank. Ground? No. Spank? Yes. (Meaning, 15 is not too old to ground)! LOL!!

    Hi Scuba -

I believe it's highly inappropriate to spank a child this old. Yeah, my parents did it 50 years ago; it was wrong. All it taught me was indignity and rebellion. They were telling me to grow up on one hand and were spanking me like a child on the other one. It was confusing as all get out, and all it accomplished was me leaving home at an early age which did no one any good, especially me.

Healing can sometimes happen with in-depth counseling, but it takes the counseling of the child AND both parents if it's going to succeed. The parents can't say it's all the kid's fault when it's probably the fault of more than one person anyway. A child will see right through that and will work to "fake" their way through the counseling just to get it over with which helps no one.

I wonder how one controls a 15-year old if they haven't been teaching them right from wrong when they were little. Not saying this family did that, but I've seen so many times where parents are so permissive when they're younger, then try to lay down the law when they get older. Can't be done!

Strong guide and direction has to start happening before age 3. The Amish begin when they start toilet training a child, and that's about right in my experience.

The longer one lets bad behavior go on, the harder it is to redirect it and change it.

"talking about beating her. I hope more information comes out and the cause can be healed. itsmyownopinion"

NO ONE is talking about beating her but a spanking wouldn't hurt IF it turns out she was anything but abducted! and just HOW do you propose the 'cause' can be healed? that makes no sense.

chrisnrali; if you're right, i'm sorry this is all so public. Wish she'd left a note or made even a short call home. There are other worse possible explanations. Hope it unravels well.

  • more cowbell Jul 24, 1:31 p.m.

wonder who's taking care of the baby she had while away?
    chrisnrali

Good call! Probably the most likely scenario.
