Raleigh PD debuts new patrol vehicles
Posted April 2, 2014
Raleigh, N.C. — The Raleigh Police Department on Wednesday unveiled the newest additions to its fleet of approximately 900 cars, SUVs and trucks.
The department bought 67 vehicles – mostly Ford Interceptors and Chevrolet Caprices—to replace the well-known Crown Victoria, which Ford discontinued in 2011.
The new vehicles will be fitted and rotated into service along with dozens of Interceptors and Dodge Chargers bought last year.
The police department tested several models before making its decision.
All three vehicles have better miles-per-gallon figures than the Crown Victorias and are comparably priced.
More than 500 vehicles in the police department's fleet are patrol vehicles.
