Raleigh neighborhood perplexed after recent break-ins

Six cars were reportedly broken into in the Wade Park neighborhood. Officials said at least one of the six cars was stolen.

Residents who were affected by the break-ins said they locked their vehicles, and their windshields showed no signs of damage.

Brian O’Neill said he, along with his neighbors, are still perplexed.

“That was a little unnerving for all of us, and that has been the talk that’s been going around,” O’Neill said.

Neighbors told WRAL News that they believe technology is available which allows thieves to use a universal fob key. Someone operating the key can amplify the signal that overrides automatic locks and garage door openers.

Raleigh police said they haven’t confirmed the residents’ theory of how the vehicles were broken into.
