Raleigh man tries to commit suicide in front of police

Posted January 28, 2011

— A Raleigh man tried to kill himself Thursday while accompanying police officers to a home as part of an investigation, police said Friday.

The unidentified man was at WakeMed. Police said his wound was initially thought not to be life-threatening, but his condition had worsened Friday.

The man wasn't in custody when he went with officers to the residence at 4716 Parr Vista Court, police said. The officers were then going to take him to a Raleigh Police Department office on Atlantic Avenue for questioning.

While at the residence, however, the man was able to grab a personal handgun and shoot himself in the head, police said. The shooting occurred at about 7 p.m. Thursday in the back yard of the home.

An officer used a Taser to try to prevent the suicide attempt, but no officers fired their guns during the incident, police said.

The shooting and the initial case police were looking into both remain under investigation.

glad the officers are ok...you never know what is going to happen when you go to a call...nothing about law enforcement is

Any time you shot yourself in the head, that in my opinion is life-threatening. What kind of comment was that for the police to say? He shot himself in the head, not the leg, or a hand.
He obviously has some guilt feelings or some type of involvement in this investigative case. Why would he try to kill his self. Or he is just completely off his rocker and wanted to die. And in that case, he is in the right place, the hospital; where he can get the help that he needs.

I have worked with this man in the past. He is a fine and decent human being. Peace to imdicktrickle who is hate-filled. Prayers to the families of the unidentified man (Thanks a lot WRAL).

"...used a taser to try to prevent the suicide attempt..."

That doesn't mean they successfully tasered him. Perhaps he was running out the back door and the officer drew the taser while chasing after him and missed. Regardless, don't assume anything.

Tasers cause muscles to contract....including trigger fingers

What an utterly thoughtless and uncaring comment.
