— A Raleigh man was sentenced Tuesday to 18 years in federal prison on child pornography charges, authorities said.

Robert Johnson, 57, pleaded guilty in 2005 to sending, receiving and possessing child pornography. He was caught in a sting by a federal agent posing as a child pornographer, and a search of his computer found more than 1,900 images and videos depicting young girls in sexual poses and logs of explicit online chats with adolescent girls and with a woman whose daughter he wanted to sexually abuse.

Johnson had been sentenced to 12 years in prison on the charges, but prosecutors appealed the sentence, which was less than what government sentencing guidelines recommended. The Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed and ordered that he be resentenced.
