Raleigh man faces DWI charge after pedestrian death

Edwin Arturo Ramos, of 3501 Greywood Drive, was driving a 2005 Honda Accord when he hit Clarence Edward Hayes, police said.

Hayes was walking in a designated crosswalk near Brentwood Road at around 10 p.m. when he was hit.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Ramos, who was not injured, was also charged with DWI in 2010. His blood alcohol content was measured at .08, according to the arrest warrant.

Assistant District Attorney Jeff Cruden said other charges are pending related to Hayes's death.

Ramos, who remained on the scene until police arrived, told officers that Hayes "came out of nowhere."
