Raleigh man dies in early morning wreck on I-40 near Garner

A Raleigh man died early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 40 near Jones Sausage Road, officials said.

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Raleigh man died early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 40 near Jones Sausage Road, officials said.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said crews found a 2004 Kia Sorento in the wood line off I-40 around 6 a.m. Troopers found a man who was dead inside the vehicle.

Investigators said the driver, identfied as Walid Ahmad Abu-Hamra, 52, of West Pine Court, Raleigh, hydroplaned in the early morning hours before striking a tree, but the accident wasn't discovered until later.

Officials said there is no indication that alcohol was involved.
