Raleigh man convicted in teen's 2007 DWI death faces arrest again
A Raleigh man who pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the DWI-related death of Wakefield High School student more than seven years ago is in trouble with police again.
Posted — UpdatedChristopher John Palmeri, 25, of 1920 High Holly Lane, was arrested Wednesday in Wake Forest on a misdemeanor drug charge, according to court records. Details of his arrest weren't immediately available Thursday.
He was in the Wake County jail Thursday morning under a $12,000.
Palmeri spent several months in jail and was given probation after his August 2007 conviction in the death of Sadiki Ayize Young. Young, 18, died five months earlier when the car Palmeri was driving went off an embankment in north Raleigh.
Investigators said Palmeri had been drinking and was traveling 72 mph in a 35 mph speed zone at the time of the wreck. Young was one of two passengers in the car.
Since then, authorities have arrested Palmeri on several misdemeanor crimes and probation violations. His last arrest in February 2013 stemmed from an alleged probation violation in which he tested positive for drugs.
Young’s mother, Rosemarie Newman, has been active in raising awareness among teens of the dangers of drinking and driving.
“Run for Young,” a 5K race in Raleigh is held each year in his memory as reminder for teens to make good decisions whenever driving is involved.
