— A Raleigh man is charged with sexual offenses against a child.

Darrice Kaseen Payton, 20, of 3212 Burntwood Drive, is accused of taking indecent liberties with a 15-year-old girl, according to an arrest warrant.

He also faces charges of statutory rape with a person more than four, but less than six, years younger than him. The incidents allegedly occurred between May 1 and May 28, 2009.

Payton was being held under a $200,000 bond at the Wake County jail. His first court appearance was scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday.

sigh. and the worse part about the entire thing is that now he will have to be a registered sex offender for life. his address will appear on those little maps (there's even an iPhone app specifically for this) and he will have to deal with that forever. He is a fool, but sometimes, the punishment does not fit the crime...

Not very smart on his part...and I'm pretty sure she knew what she was doing....believe it or not I was 15 once.

    TomLynda I also agree

Hmmmmmm....9 months ago. Wonder if that's the reason he has been arrested now? DNA has proved he's a Dad?

TomLynda I agree with you 100% on this one.

I'm not excusing him by any means. Technically, LEGALLY, she may be a child. But there is a huge difference between someone that hooks up with a 15 year old (that quite possibly LOOKS like an 18 year old) and someone that diddles a 5 year old.

I hope for his sake that the law makes SOME distinction. I don't know exactly what the law says, but I cringe a little when I see a story like this, with the wording making it sound like he took indecent liberties with a little kid. I've seen 15 year olds before that had the body of an adult (but the mind of a kid).

Dumb, sure. Illegal, I'll go with that. But does this guy really deserve a $200,000 bail? Should he register as a sex offender for LIFE if convicted, I don't think so.

This is stupid. Dont they have other more pressing issues to work on than a 20 year old dating a 15 year old? Good god we are scroomed (Screwed + Doomed ) as a country.

If she dont have a drivers lisence then she is a bit too young. If that was my son I'd be very angry. He would hope to be in jail.

I'll agree with a lot of you. There is not much difference in these two on their ages. More is needed on this story. How long have they know each other, did her parents know she was dating this guy, if they were in fact dating, etc. Not much to go on.

My first wife was 5 years younger than I.

Unless this guy forced himself on this girl (not a child, especially the way it is now), I'm not willing to call him a rapist yet. A fool, yes, if he did know her age.
