Raleigh man charged with raping child

A Raleigh man was being held in Wake County Saturday under an $18 million bond on rape and sex offense charges, according to arrest warrants.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man was being held in Wake County Saturday under an $18 million bond on rape and sex offense charges, according to arrest warrants.

Robert Earl Spence Jr., 40, of 2034 Brentwood Road, Apt B, is accused of repeatedly raping a child under age 13 over a six-year period. The crimes happened between 2001 and 2006, warrants state.

Spence is due in court Monday.

He was on probation for a May 2010 conviction for misdemeanor child abuse, according to state Department of Correction records. He also served probation for 2001 larceny convictions.
