Raleigh man charged with hitting child with belt

Raleigh, N.C. — A Raleigh man has been charged with misdemeanor child abuse for allegedly striking his daughter with a belt, according to an arrest warrant.
Robert Earl Spence Jr., 38, of 422-7 Buck Jones Road, was being held in the Wake County Jail Saturday under a $1,000 bond.
The warrant says that his daughter, who is under age 16, had a severe eye contusion with blood vessel breaks. Her arms also had bruises from belt strikes, according to the warrant. The incident occurred on Jan. 16.
Spence was convicted of four counts of larceny and three counts of attempted larceny in 2001, according to state Department of Correction records.
