RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man was charged with driving while impaired in a crash early Friday that killed one of his passengers, authorities said.

Simon Peter Curran, 21, of Raleigh, was killed when a 2007 Toyota ran off Mount Vernon Church Road at about 3 a.m. and hit a tree and a rock wall, according to Sgt. Michael Baker, a spokesman for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The driver, Morris Lee Wilks II, 20, was treated at the scene for minor injuries, as was a second passenger, Marquian Javon Sanders, 19, of Raleigh.

In addition to DWI, Wilks, of 100 Farrington Dive, Apt. F, was charged with reckless driving and a provisional license violation. Baker said troopers are consulting with the Wake County prosecutors about charges related to Curran's death.
