RALEIGH, N.C. — Police arrested a Raleigh man Sunday afternoon in connection with an apartment fire on East Street.

Firefighters responded just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday to 1202 S. East Street, where they found a family's two-bedroom apartment on fire.

Rodriguz Garciea McKoy, 30, of Knightdale, was arrested on a charge of burning person property.

The fire was contained within minutes and no other units were damaged in the blaze, officials said.

According to neighbors, a young mother and her two small children live in the apartment.

"The next thing I know somebody was banging on the front door and it was a lady and gentleman and they said 'we were trying to tell you at the back door, but there is a fire. You need to get out,'" said Simone Whitaker. "I came out and I looked and I was like, oh my God."

The cause of the fire was listed as incendiary.

The Red Cross was assisting the family.
