Raleigh man, 27, reported missing

Posted August 8, 2012

— Raleigh police were searching Wednesday night for a 27-year-old man who is believed to be cognitively impaired.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for William Alan Yakamavich shortly before 10 p.m.

Yakamavich was last seen at 8509 Bannister Court. He may be traveling in a 2008 black Subaru Impreza with North Carolina license plate YVC 9831, authorities said.

He is white, with short, brown hair and brown eyes, 6 feet 2 inches tall and about 210 pounds. He was last seen wearing khaki shorts, a white and blue checkered shirt and gray tennis shoes.

Yakamavich has a one-inch scar between his eyes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 919-996-3335.

Developed in 2007, the Silver Alert system quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.

I'm going to assume this will be canceled and their won't be any details on if this individual was found safe or why it was canceled (Like the other 2-3 last month).

ANyways hope this guy is found safe.

How/why do all (or most) of these people on Silver Alerts have access to vehicles if they are so cognitively impaired?
