Raleigh man, 25, killed in Henderson shooting

A 25-year-old Raleigh man died Saturday afternoon following a shooting near the Springwood Apartment Complex in Henderson, police said.

HENDERSON, N.C. — A 25-year-old Raleigh man died Saturday afternoon following a shooting near the Springwood Apartment Complex in Henderson, police said. 

Officers responded to a shooting call about 3:30 p.m. in the area of Thomas Street and Young Avenue and found two people with gunshot wounds. 

Authorities took Gregory Welfare, of Raleigh, to Maria Parham Medical Center, where he later died. Lajohn Champion, 22, of Henderson, was being treated Saturday evening for gunshot wounds at a local hospital, police said. 

No arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting should call the Henderson Police Department at 252-438-4141 or Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925.
