Raleigh girl a veteran of food drives for nonprofit

On Halloween, Delaney delivered a letter to her neighbors, asking for food donations.

"Wouldn't it be a good idea to collect some food and give it to some people who are less fortunate than us?" the letter said.

The neighborhood donated more than ever this year, providing 330 pounds of food to PLM, which helps families transition out of homelessness and get back on their feet.

"We filled up their entire kitchen with bags of stuff," Delaney said.

PLM officials said such donations are critical for families who are trying to get their finances back in order.

"It's much better for us to help them with things like providing them with food until their services start rather than them shorting their rent, because that's where their cycle starts again," said Meghan Oleson, community engagement coordinator for the nonprofit.

Delaney said she enjoys the cycle of giving that she's started in her neighborhood.

"It just feels really good just to be helping people out," she said. "It might make a more happy Christmas for them."
