LITTLETON, N.C. — A Raleigh man will be laid to rest Monday, more than a week after he went missing while swimming in Lake Gaston.

Karl Besas, 24, went missing while swimming and boating with a group of friends off Blue Bird Point in Littleton on Aug. 27. Firefighters found his body in the water five days later. Foul play was not suspected.

A funeral service will be held for Besas at Peace Presbyterian Church in Cary at 10 a.m. Monday.

Besas' family issued a statement saying he was "a beautiful, beloved son."

"Karl was a wonderful son and brother and was loved by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him. He touched us all and will be greatly missed.”
