Raleigh Councilwoman Won't Seek Re-Election

Posted May 31, 2007

— Joyce Kekas, an at-large city council member, has sent letters to friends saying she won’t seeking re-election when her ends at the end of November.

Kekas said she has a new granddaughter and wants to spend time with her family. Also, she said she has been re-evaluating her life since her recent treatment for breast cancer.

“I’ll continue to be involved with the city of Raleigh, but this time on my time line, not on the city council's,” she wrote in the letter.

Getting her out of the city council will remove Mayor Meeker's majority.

Unfortunately it's too late to stop the funding of his boondoggle projects including the convention center, hotel, and other downtown projects. Now we're saddled with the debt and nothing to show for the investment.

As far as Mayor Meeker is concerned the only part of Raleigh that he's aware of is a 1 mile radius of the state capital.
