Raleigh councilman battling cancer

Posted April 1, 2013

— City Councilman Thomas Crowder is battling testicular cancer, Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane told other council members Monday.

Crowder, who is serving his fourth term on the City Council as southwest Raleigh's representative, was recently diagnosed with the disease, McFarlane said.

She said Crowder plans to keep working as his treatment allows, and he expects to fully resume his duties in July.

"Now how is this newsworthy again?"- well, to those of us in his district, it lets us know he might not be available to help solve issues we might have that he would or could normally help with. To those who don't know Thomas or live in his district, it doesn't concern you, for those of us who do know him and live in his district, it's news.

Thomas is the rep for our area and is VERY involved with the neighborhoods and his district. While we havent always seen eye to eye on every issue, hes a good guy and wouldnt wish this on anyone. Hope he fights hard and comes back strong!
