Raleigh council negotiating contract with manager candidate

Raleigh, N.C. — City Council members have chosen someone to be Raleigh's next city manager and are negotiating a contract with that person.
The new manager, whose name hasn't been released, could be formally announced Friday morning, officials said.
The council in April terminated the contract of City Manager Russell Allen, who had overseen municipal operations for 12 years. Mayor Nancy McFarlane said at the time that Raleigh needs a new perspective as it grows and looks toward the future.
Four finalists were chosen last month from 80 applications from across the country, and council members interviewed each of the four two weeks ago.
Raleigh Chief Financial Officer Perry James has been serving as interim city manager since Allen left in early July.
