RALEIGH, N.C. — For the second time in 10 months, the City Council has voted to support the single-member system of districts for the Wake County school board.

Several mayors in other Wake County municipalities have called for changing the school board representation to nine at-large districts, with all board members being elected countywide.

Raleigh City Councilwoman Mary-Ann Baldwin said that system would make elections too expensive and could threaten the diversity on the board.

The council also passed a resolution supporting the school district's efforts for diversity in schools, including its busing policy.
