RALEIGH, N.C. — Runoff elections will be held next month for a seat on the Raleigh City Council and a seat on the Cary Town Council, Wake County elections officials said Tuesday.

Businessman Dickie Thompson and public information officer Eddie Woodhouse will face off in the race to represent Raleigh City Council District A, which covers north Raleigh. Thompson finished 57 votes ahead in last week's election that saw both men and education consultant J.B. Buxton each grab about a third of the votes cast.

In Cary Town Council District D, which represents southwest Cary, businessman Ken George will face project manager Maria Cervania. George finished with 42 percent of the vote in a four-person race last week, which wasn't enough to fend off a runoff with Cervania, who grabbed 28 percent.

The runoffs will be held Nov. 3, as will municipal elections in several area towns.
