sure didn't look like anyone was hurting when I passed it!

Same thing happened in Rocky Mount several years ago and injury claims came in from people who were not even riding the transit bus at the time.

If the car was going 45, the driver would be dead. I guess they forgot to mention that.

The back end of the bus would show SOME damage.

  • beaupeep Jun 27, 2012

The damage to the back of that bus is AMAZING....not.

beaupeep - This was on Capital, so the Hyundai was liking going at least 45 mph probably faster. The bus was at a stop, or close to it. If passengers were standing (very likely based on other comments here that this bus route is usually full), it would be very easy to fall. I ride public transit every day (not CAT), and the force from hitting a large pot hole can actually knock someone down if they are standing, especially if they are moving down the aisle (most drivers I ride with will drive easier if passengers are standing to prevent this). The jolt from being rear ended could absolutely cause falls and injuries.

How in the world could a hyundai really injure people on a bus?

Several years ago in NY City a TV station faked a bus accident like this one. They filmed people running from the sidewalk to jump onto the bus and claim they were injured.

I saw this happen today and the Hyundai was enormous.

"Obviously less people understand the simplest physics laws there are. Google Newtons Laws of Motion. It wouldn't take much for an unrestrained passenger to be forced into a metal seat or bar in front of them. - do not feed the pterodactyls"

Uh, yeah. Try the second law...concerning mass. Now factor in that the mass of a bus is 10 to 20 times that of a small car.

Unless that car was traveling at light speed, it's unlikely the effects of the impact on the bus was any worse than a typical pothole.
