Raleigh-bound Amtrak train hits, kills pedestrian

A Raleigh-bound Amtrak train struck and killed a person walking on railroad tracks near Kannapolis Tuesday evening, a company spokesperson said.

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — A Raleigh-bound Amtrak train struck and killed a person walking on railroad tracks near Kannapolis Tuesday evening, a company spokesperson said.

The person was identified as Nick Lee Justice, 56, of Concord.

The spokesperson said the train could not be stopped in time to avoid hitting the person. It had just left Charlotte.

The train, which was originally scheduled to arrive in Raleigh at 8:30 p.m., was delayed by a little more than two hours.
