Raleigh approves plan for apartments, retail near NCSU
A lot that now has parking and a few vacant storefronts near North Carolina State University soon will be transformed into an apartment and retail complex.

Raleigh City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the rezoning of a 4-acre tract in the 3000 block of Hillsborough Street, between Concord Street and Friendly Drive. The site will become home to Stanhope Center, a mix of 156 student apartments with ground-floor retail and a parking deck.
The plan was approved with several conditions: There will be no vehicle entrance from Hillsborough Street; 95 percent of parking must be contained in the deck; a bus shelter and benches must be placed on Hillsborough Street; and signs must be limited.
The developer on the project is John Kane, who also developed North Hills.
