RALEIGH, N.C. — The off-and-on rain showers that kept central North Carolina cool Tuesday will persist through the evening. The chance for rain at any time remains at 50 percent into early Wednesday, WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel said.
Some areas got a soaking Tuesday while others missed out.
In the western half of the Triangle, a series of severe thunderstorms rattled the windows during the evening rush hour.

The skies will clear on Wednesday and conditions will be just about perfect for stargazers to catch a glimpse of the Perseid meteor shower. Temperatures for Wednesday night, when the shower reaches its peak, will be in the upper 60s with clear skies.

The meteor shower will continue through Friday night.
