Rain stays to east of Triangle, warmup on way

RALEIGH, N.C. — While eastern North Carolina got a soaking Tuesday, the Triangle saw mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures than in recent days. Highs in the 80s won't stick around long, though. It warms back up by the end of the week, when the chance for summer thunderstorms returns.

The chance for widespread showers – but not severe thunderstorms – sticks around through Wednesday, and the temperature will hold around 80 degrees for one more sticky, muggy day.

Wednesday's humidity will be greater than 80 percent in the morning, and dip only slightly as the day goes on.

Thursday will be warmer but much less humid, with only a slight chance for thunderstorms in the afternoon.

The summer heat returns for Friday and Saturday, and it comes with a greater chance for severe storms, especially Friday afternoon.
