Rain soaks Triangle again but weekend promises drier air
Steady storms over the past two days that dropped as much as five inches of rain in some coastal North Carolina towns will sprinkle some more around the Triangle on Thursday.
Posted — UpdatedScattered showers moved across counties north of Raleigh bringing light rain to Roxboro and Henderson while a heavier storm pushed through southern counties. The continued clouds make for dreary skies, but the past four days have brought almost two inches of needed rain to Raleigh.
"Prior to this, we went two straight weeks of no rain at all," said WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth. "So, this was much-needed rain, and we're going to get some more today."
The low pressure system that has squatted over North Carolina for the last few days will bring more moisture Thursday. But a high pressure system from the north will slip in, bringing drier air over the next 24 hours to enter the weekend.
"For today, we will have periods of rain on and off, basically any point in time," Wilmoth said. "Plenty of cloud cover as well."
Heavier rain could soil the evening commute, and light rain will continue into Friday morning, Wilmoth added. The dry air will begin to push its way in on Friday evening.
