Rain possible as front moves through; cooler air arrives Friday
Temperatures will be warm again Thursday across central and eastern North Carolina, but changes are on the way behind a cold front that will slowly move across the state throughout the day.
Posted — UpdatedThe front will generate patchy showers for the Triangle all day, although much of the area will avoid heavy rain, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.
"We've got southwest winds pushing warm, moist air into the region ahead of our front, and the on-again, off-again showers will likely be with us for much of the day," she said. "We're not thinking today will be a washout, but we can't rule out a shower at any point. Take a jacket or umbrella along."
The warm pattern will allow daytime highs to climb to about 70 degrees Thursday afternoon, just slightly above normal for early November.
As the front slides out overnight, cooler, drier air will move quickly into the area for the close of the work week.
Lows will dip back into the mid-40s early Friday, and daytime highs will drop back to near 60 degrees under sunny skies.
The sunny, dry pattern will linger throughout the weekend and early next week. Highs will be between the upper 50s and mid-60s, and overnight lows will dip into the upper 30s and low 40s.
"Once we get past today we're going to enjoy nice weather through the early part of next week," Gardner said. "By late next week, we're likely going to see our first big blast of arctic air, so be thinking about that."
