Rain on way; won't ruin weekend
A wide band of wet weather is headed for the Triangle Friday. "If you have outdoor plans for Friday evening, no matter where you are, expect to need an umbrella," WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel said.
Posted — UpdatedThursday's forecast calls for another pleasant day with highs above the mid-January norm and mostly sunny skies.
The clouds on the leading edge of the rainmaker will build into central North Carolina later Thursday afternoon from the southwest.
Friday will be noticeably cooler – temperatures won't get out of the 40s – and a light rain will begin by mid-afternoon.
Widespread, chilly, light rain is the pattern for Friday night and Saturday morning. There is no chance of any severe or wintry weather, according to the WRAL WeatherCenter. The temperatures will stay too warm for snow, even overnight, and the winds won't be blowing harder than 10 to 15 mph.
"The rain could move out in time for us to see some sun before the day ends Saturday," Fishel said.
Sunday will be the better day, weather-wise. Some sun returns and temperatures push back above 50 before dipping again to start the work week.
