Rain, clouds, chill set in for work week
The delight of a warm and sunny holiday weekend gave way Monday to much cooler temperatures and a steady rain.
Posted — UpdatedShowers began before dawn Monday, leaving roads wet and slick for the return to work.
“It’s a bit of a shock to the system as we head back to work and school,” WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said.
A cold front slides through the southern half of North Carolina Monday and may stall before exiting the state. This means there could be a wide temperature spread from north to south across the area. Some regions in the north could be in the 40s all day while southeast sections of the coastal plain could be around 60 degrees.
No matter the temperature, just about everyone in central North Carolina will see a dreary Monday and have a chance to get wet, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.
After that, the skies will clear, but temperatures stay in the mid-50s with chilly nights through the weekend.
